Siamak Zarin is a multimedia artist, photographer, filmmaker, screenwriter, musician, engineer, and entrepreneur whose educational endeavors, artistic creations and work experiences span over three continents. In 1996 following an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Iran’s highly competitive Tehran Polytechnic University of Technology and successful career at SAPCO and Iran Aircraft Industries, Siamak left his native country for Sweden, where he received an MBA while working for Volvo Trucks. In 2004 he embarked on a Ph.D. program in Business Administration and worked for Sony Ericsson Telecommunications till 2010 when he migrated to the U.S.
Dr. Zarin’s artistic adventures began at a very young age when he practices calligraphy in the presence of his grandfather, Hussein Zaringhalam, one of Iran’s most celebrated calligraphers. Starting his photography journey at the age of 15, Siamak also wrote photo criticism for Iran’s well-known photo journal, Akkasi (Photography). He studied music as a teenager and excelled to become an accomplished pianist with professional performances in both Iran and Sweden. His interest in the photographic image, and his passion for storytelling, along with an unquenchable appetite for history steered him to create a documentary film about Howard Baskerville, an American teacher who fought and died alongside Iranian democrats in the early 20th century Constitutional Revolution.
Blending his artistic interest and science education, Dr. Zarin, has created over 200 TV programs and a dozen multimedia designs for theatre and dance productions since his migration to the United States. Through these designs, combining the contemporary computer art with ancient Iranian art of Naghali (storytelling) and Pardehkhani (one-person performance using large paintings depicting scenes from the story), Siamak has effectively contemporized an art that is rarely practiced.
Dr. Zarin is co-founder and CEO of OpExcell Consulting Inc., a management consulting company with a focus on operational and business excellence, as well as quality engineering and management.
